Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church for Elizabeth M. “Betty” Schroeder, age 78, of Long Prairie who died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home. Rev. Rich Walz will officiate and burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 8:00 a.m. Friday at Williams Dingmann Stein Chapel in Long Prairie. St. Mary’s Catholic Women will pray the rosary at 3:00 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Long Prairie.
Elizabeth M. “Betty” Klimek was born at home on April 10, 1931 in Urbank, Minnesota to Frank and Elizabeth (Leofler) Klimek. She attended high school in Brandon, MN until her parents moved to a farm in rural Long Prairie where she continued high school. Betty married Adolph J. Schroeder on September 2, 1947 in Long Prairie. Betty had a variety of jobs, including working many years at the Long Prairie Liquor Store and Vets Club. She was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. Betty also volunteered at church helping with meals, the VFW, the American Legion and was the VFW Auxiliary President for two terms. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
Betty is survived by her children, Richard (JoAnn) Schroeder and Lawrence (Sharlene) Schroeder both of Long Prairie, Alice (Tim) Johnson of Duluth, and Lori Jayne Stoffel of Fond du Lac Wis.; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren; brother, Elwin (Marvel) Klimek of Babbitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph; brothers, Arnold, Emmett, Werner, and Myron; sister, Agatha Porter; and son-in-law, Donald Stoffel.
Honorary bearers will be Brandi Schroeder, Tim Schroeder, Kim Dierkhising, Mathew Stoffel, Brooke Krafthfer, Ty Johnson, Jarrod Johnson, Steve Rist, Michelle Nelson, and Scott Rist.
