John A. Tolmie, 70, Princeton, died Tuesday, April 13th at the Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN.
John was born on December 11, 1939 at Haines, Alaska, son of Almon and Eileen (Dawson) Tolmie. His family moved to Princeton, MN in the mid-1940’s, where he grew up and was educated. He graduated from high school in 1957 and served in the US Army and then Air Force. Following his discharge in 1962, John worked at Federal Cartridge in Anoka for fourteen years. He was united in marriage with Mary Mattson on December 17, 1966 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Princeton. He went to school at the Spartan School of Aviation in Tulsa, OK and served at the Air Force Reserve Test Cell Unit while in school. He returned home and worked for Crystal Cabinets for fifteen years before retiring at age 62. He had worked part-time at the Mille Lacs County DAC in Princeton for the past seven years.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking (birdhouses). He worked on remodeling his home, bird watching from the porch, cooking steaks on the grill, bowling on mixed doubles league and with the DAC group.
John is survived by his wife: Mary; son: Paul (Tammy) Tolmie of Sauk Rapids, MN; daughter: Melisa (Garrett) Miller of Becker, MN; three grandchildren: Amber, Nicholas and Marcus; and three siblings: Susie Unger of Princeton, MN, Jerry Tolmie of Milaca, MN and Don (Myla) Tolmie of Milaca, MN.
Visitation: One hour before services at the church.
Funeral: 11:00 AM Saturday, April 24th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Princeton, MN.
Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Princeton, MN.
